Mahindra Marazzo : Can this “Shark” devour the UV Segment?
THE PREFACE:
The MUV segment in the Indian market is sort of a monopoly. Thanks to Toyota Innova, which has proven to be “The Invincible” of this segment. This also credits to the rock solid reliability of Toyota. But that doesn’t mean that other cars in this segment were overshadowed by Innova. They too had their far bit of share, like Xylo was popular among the taxi aggregators and large families and was know for its space in third row seat . A sloppy handling and quality issues really plagued the car. Ertiga as popular among families and that Maruti’s after sales support only aided its sales. Chevrolet and Renault tried their hands but nothing can withstand the Innova’s heat. While the former exited the market, Lodgy from the latter have become a sort of a rare sight. Honda’s Mobilio met the same fate. Poor sales means Honda pulling the plug of it.
WHAT IS IT?
In order to make its presence felt, Mahindra has gone the distance to make out a product that would give a tough fight to Innova. Since it was inspired by shark and some natural elements it has been named Marazzo, which, has been derived form Spanish word basque, which mean shark in English.
It is the most premium offering from Mahindra. Also it is a ” Made outside India, for India” Mahindra. Yes of course!, It has been developed on a completely new platform from scratch in the company’s Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) located in Michigan, USA. It is indeed a complete departure from earlier models. Overall, its a all new model with new chassis, new body, and new mechanicals. It is being offered in both 7 and 8 seater versions.
WHAT IS BENEATH THE HOOD?
It is powered by a 1.5 L engine, which is built from scratch. It is christened as mFalcon churning out a healthy 123 BHP. It is built on a special hybrid chassis,as a result it gets the best of two worlds, i.e, the packing efficiency of a monocoque and the durability good old body-on-frame ladder chassis. and the power is sent to the front wheels.
WHAT IS INSIDE?
Marazzo is packed to the gills with features. In safety aspect, the airbags are standard. The top trim M8 has dashboard which looks and feels premium. The 3D AC vents in the rear looks unique. And especially the light colours adds an airy feel. But there are somethings to watchout for, the airplane landing gear inspired handbrake, which is unique. Then there is the EcoSense button that puts the power to 100 BHP. increasing the mileage.
CAN IT “DEVOUR”?
Well, its a great overall package. Its great to see Mahindra doing this. Its more upmarket than expected and even more sophisticated. Price range starts at ₹9.99 lakhs and goes up to ₹13.90 lakhs. It has the power to pull customer to its side. According to me, it can “devour”. All we have to do is wait and watch.
So reader what is your thought?. Well Fingers Crossed.
My view is that, It can't devour ertiga or innova's sales numbers, because people buy them just for the service and latter for the longer engine life, reliability they offer.
What it can devour is that of the sales number of TATA Hexa which fairly makes 800 unit sales per month!!
Again just my point of view
